What is RSS?

RSS is the name given to the family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news or sport headlines or even podcasts. An RSS document, which is called a "feed," "web feed," or "channel," contains either a summary of content from an associated web site or the full text. RSS makes it possible for people to keep up with their favorite web sites in an automated manner that's easier than checking them manually.

Basically, news (RSS) feeds allow you to see when your favourite websites have added new content. You get their latest news / article items as soon as they're published without having to visit the site that produces them.

RSS content can be read using software called a "feed reader" or an "aggregator." The user subscribes to a feed by entering the feed's link into the reader or by clicking an RSS icon in a browser that initiates the subscription process. The reader checks the user's subscribed feeds regularly for new content, downloading any updates that it finds.

What does this mean?

It means that you can keep up to date with all jobs posted to this website without actually having to return to the website. Your 'RSS Reader' of choice will periodically check the website for any new jobs that have been posted, pull them down and present them to you without your having to do a thing!

What other RSS feeds are out there?

There are literally tens of thousands of RSS feeds out there, covering (much like the web) every topic under the sun. Some Irish feeds that may be of interest (covering news, sport, business etc) include:

  • RTE
  • Ireland.com (The Irish Times)
  • Unison.ie (The Irish Independent

Do I need special software?

The latest versions of both Internet Explorer and Firefox include RSS readers. However, you may wish to install an RSS client that will run on your PC in the background. Some good RSS readers include:
